Mali

This is the land where griots orally kept the treasure trove of history for years. The people were blessed listeningto it. The story of Sundiata of Old mali or Sogolon Djata was learned early in Kenya and other countries of Africa. Mali has 56 languages and of these, one has no mother tongue speakers.

Mali borders Algeria on the north, Burkina Faso and the Côte d'Ivoire to the south, Niger to the east, Guinea on the south-west and Senegal and Mauritania on the west. Mali has a population of 14. 5 million. The capital is Bamako. Much of the north of Mali is in the Sahara desert. France made the country her colony. In 1960 Mali achieved her independence. The history of the kingdom of Mali is known as great and well known.
